How to Show Up in Google Maps

Local SEO is one of the best ways to get new inquiries and sales for your local business. But, in order to get this interest, people must be able to find your Google My Business (GMB) profile. Fortunately, there are a number of ways to increase your chances of showing up in Google Maps. It all starts with claiming your GMB profile.

Create or Claim Your Google My Business Profile

If your business is new, you’ll probably have to create a GMB profile, which you can do here. If your business has been operating for a while, a profile may have already been created for you. If this is the case, claim your listing and update it with your latest information, including location and store hours.

Add a Consistent NAP

NAP stands for Name, Address and Phone number. It’s important that this information is correct and consistent with your other marketing materials. This ensures that your listing will show up for local searches and that people know where to find you.

Choose Relevant Categories

The category section of GMB tells Google what your business is about. This way, it can be categorized correctly. Choose one primary category that best describes your business, then add a few secondary categories for more info.

List Your Service Areas

Your GMB profile lets you target specific areas. If you serve customers at your business but also have a service area, you can list both. If you don’t serve customers at your business but have a service area, leave the address field blank.

Post Your Operating Hours

Your business’ operating hours are important. Make sure your hours are updated for weekends and holidays. This way, customers won’t show up at a time or date when you’re store isn’t open.

Share Your Website and Appointment URL

You can enter in two URLs – one for your website and one for scheduling appointments. The “website” URL is the URL of your homepage. The appointment URL brings people to a landing page where they can request an appointment.

List Your Services

Make a list of the services you offer. If people are interested, they can click on your website to learn more. You can create custom categories and write full descriptions of your services along with the pricing. If people want to learn more, they can click on your website.

Gather Reviews

Reviews are very important on GMB, as they show that you are a trustworthy business. To have a competitive profile that is featured in the listings, be sure to make reviews a priority. In exchange for leaving feedback, you can give customers a discount code.

Add Photos and Videos

Complete your GMB profile with relevant photos and videos from your business. This gives your profile a finished look while showing the different parts of your business. Post high quality photos that communicate your brand’s message.

A solid Google My Business profile is sure to get your local business noticed. Follow the tips above, and be sure to keep your profile updated with fresh content, customer reviews and original photos.
